The Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration operates the following programs:

Licensing

This division processes applications, issues licenses, and provides information to the public about the licensing process. As part of the licensing function, ABRA maintains records and provides statistics on the number, type, and location of licensed alcoholic beverage establishments. In addition, licensing staff evaluates and recommends changes in licensing processes, regulations, and licensing fees.

Currently, there are more than 1,500 alcoholic beverage establishments in the District of Columbia.

Key initiatives associated with the Licensing Division include:

  • Development of a new computer system to maintain accurate information regarding licenses
  • Development of an effective and efficient license processing for new catering and other licenses
